Another Christmas Memory

December 24, 2015

This story also was written by a Life Stories participant, Laverne Schuck, and shared by her at the county museum's Festival of Trees opening last year:

I remember one December when it had snowed for days. It was difficult to get to the barn to milk the cows and take care of feeding the livestock. Mother told us that Santa Claus wasn't coming because of the roads being in such bad shape. We didn't want to believe that he wouldn't be coming.

On Christmas the sun came out and the sun on the snow sparkled like diamonds. Just over the hill someone was coming. We could hardly wait to see who it was. As they came closer we saw that it was my brother Bruce and his wife, Alma. They were pulling a red wagon for my brother Ray and had a pretty blue dress for me. They said that Santa sent them because he couldn't get around to all the kids because of the roads.

We made snow cream and as we were eating the snow I said I knew Santa wouldn't forget us.
